Why have a dyscalculia assessment?

A Diagnostic Assessment for Dyscalculia can be very helpful if someone is having significant problems in their studies or daily life and would want to gain a better understanding of their needs and how they can be better supported.

An assessment will give a better idea of a person's cognitive profile, including their strengths and weaknesses. This will make any support that is implemented personalised and as successful as possible.

Assessments

For people up to the age of 18, we can set up an in-person dyscalculia evaluation. An assessment is conducted by a specialist teacher and costs £650. The assessment can take place at a range of locations within the East Midlands, including a persons home. Assessments generally take approx. 4 hours. Assessments for dyscalculia cannot be conducted remotely.

What happens at as assessment?

Typically, a diagnostic assessment can take up to four hours to finish.

The assessor will administer a battery of tests to examine various facets of ability during the assessment, including:

Spelling, writing, reading and maths

Processing speed, memory, and verbal and visual problem-solving abilities are the foundational learning abilities.

Before the test, there is typically a casual conversation to get a little more background information.

If parents or carers want to stay for the entire evaluation, which could take up to four hours, they might want to bring something to keep them busy. Although you might not always be able to attend for the entire assessment, rest assured that every assessor is thoroughly vetted, qualified, and has a DBS clearance.
